Kinja'd!!!

It starts with a simple set of candle holders like these .

Mom and I are quite similar, being iconoclasts, thrift store shopping and eating at dives and whole-in-the-wall restaurants. Dad and my sister prefer tradition, fancy retail stores and fine dining.

Anyway, back to Christmas. The candle holders would come out and mom and I would switch the letters to read ‘LEON’ instead. Dad or sister would switch them back, and mom or I would reverse them again. It was all in good fun, but sometimes the stodgier amongst us didn’t seem to view it that way.

I told this story to a couple of nurses at the hospital this evening. I don’t think it was intentional, but one of them addressed me as Leon as I departed...

Growing up my Mom had a train that spelled Noel and I did the same thing. After a few years everyone started calling it the “Leon Train” and eventually she just put it out as Leon. 30+ years later and she has the Leon train on the mantle right now.

Make it say Elon now. It's more topical.

So true. Especially in my folk’s neighborhood, where most homes have solar and every other car is electric (including my dad’s). But I live 1800 miles away and my sister and her family don’t celebrate Christmas, so the decorations don’t come out like they did decades ago.
